Bob Johnston
Age: Old
Job Title: Manager / Director
Interests: Mainly RC Heli's but also RC Glider & fixed
wing models, also has interests in Archaeology, Ancient Civilisations, where we
came from etc, Astronomy, SETI. Very big into
Paragliding.
History: Bob has been involved in aero
modelling since the age of about 7 years
and progressed from free flight models through control line (U control) to RC
Gliders at the age of 13 and then on to fixed wing power models for the next 10
years.
He got in to Heli's in 1987. In 1988/9 he was almost certainly
the first person in Europe and probably one of the first in the world to start
flying 3D or switch less inverted as it was then called. He flew Concept heli's
with Futaba radio's from 1990 to 1995 for the UK Distributors and after a very
brief spell with Kalt flew for Robbe Schluter using JR radio until 2005/6 when
he moved to Align / Futaba.
Bob's technical
expertise lead him to be a major contributor to the development of CSM gyro's, NHP blades, Robbe & Synergy
helicopters and Webra engines.
Bob is foremost a 3D demo pilot so does not take in any competitions
now but has won the Poting 3D cup twice and second to a certain Mr Youngblood in the last one.
